Accessing income through commercial real estate debt

As interest rates reach all-time lows, investors are actively searching for alternative investments that can provide them with a reliable and consistent income to help them fund their living expenses, lifestyle and retirement. 

Commercial Real Estate (short for CRE) debt asset class aims to provide investors with consistent and reliable income and less capital volatility. 

To help us understand the investment opportunities behind the commercial real estate debt asset class, Martin chats with Yin-Peng Chiew, Director of Strategy at Qualitas Group.

About our guest

Yin-Peng Chiew has a total of 16 years’ experience in real estate finance and funds management, with 13 years dedicated to real estate lending to corporate and institutional borrowers. Yin-Peng played a lead role in the establishment of the ASX-listed Qualitas Real Estate Income Fund, and is now responsible for fund and product strategy and investor relations.

Yin-Peng joined Qualitas in 2017 as a Director of Real Estate Finance, responsible for origination and execution of real estate finance transactions across the full spectrum of debt. Prior to this, Yin-Peng spent 9 years in Real Estate Finance at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and 3 years in Institutional Property at ANZ where she was responsible for origination and execution of real estate transactions, predominantly for AREITs.

About our host

Martin Dinh is the Senior Investment Product Specialist for Investment Products at ASX. He is responsible for the admission of exchange-traded products, warrants and mFunds as well as managing the exchange’s relationship with existing and prospective fund managers. 

Martin has played a key role in the growth of ASX’s Investment Product market including facilitating the admission of over 150 Investment Products since 2013.
